Judge Has Not Decided on Joran van der Sloot’s Fate

(AP) A judge heard arguments Wednesday on whether to prolong the detention of a Dutch suspect in the disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway.

Defense attorney Antonio Carlo said he urged the judge to release Joran van der Sloot, arguing prosecutors have produced no evidence that his client was involved in Holloway’s disappearance — or that a crime had been committed.

Carlo said van der Sloot, 18, cried during the closed hearing but answered all of the judge’s questions.

Prosecutors said Tuesday they filed a motion to keep the Dutch teen detained for another 30 days. They must offer additional evidence against the teen or he must be released, according to Aruba law.

The judge has until Sept. 3 to rule.

RANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) — A judge will decide Wednesday whether to continue holding a Dutch suspect detained for nearly three months in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, a defense lawyer said Tuesday.

(CBS) Paul and Anita van der Sloot’s dream is to have their son home.

In an exclusive interview with CBS News Correspondent Kelly Cobiella, Anita says simply, “We want him to go on with his life.”

Joran van der Sloot, 18, has been held since early June in the May 30 disappearance from Aruba of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway.

Joran hasn’t been charged, but authorities on the Dutch Caribbean island have named him a suspect in the case.

His parents say the only thing established for sure is that Joran was with Natalee the night she vanished, and they stand by his insistence that he didn’t hurt her.

Natalee’s Friends Begin College

August 29th, 2005 by Ian in Natalee's Family

(via Riehl World View):

ARTICLE Claire Fierman thought her friend Natalee Holloway had simply overslept when she missed her plane home from Aruba.

Now – nearly three months later – Fierman is enrolled at the Capstone, but Holloway still hasn’t come home from what Fierman called “the trip of a lifetime.”

Adjusting to college life is difficult for many freshmen. But for the friends of Holloway – who is still missing in Aruba – the transition has been especially bittersweet.

Wall of Hope Visit

August 28th, 2005 by Ian in Natalee Holloway, Natalee's Family

Debbie, the Blogs for Natalee forum moderator had the opportunity to go to the “Wall of Hope” in Mountainbrook on Saturday. When she was at the WOH taking pictures and signing it for us, Beth Twitty popped up and met with Debbie and her friend. Here is Debbie’s account of the experience:

I went to Natalee’s Wall of Hope this afternoon and you will never believe this………. I met Beth Twitty. We were at the Wall of Hope, reading all that was written, I heard a car door shut, turned around, and said to my friends oh my goodness that’s Beth Twitty. She is so nice and so gracious, walked over to us and hugged our necks. She said she saw us there and had to stop and talk to us. She answered any questions we asked, and talked to us for about 15 minutes. She was very pleased that the Kalpoe brothers & Freddy were arrested, she has felt that they play a large part in what happened to Natalee. I asked her who she trusts in Aruba and she answered without hesitation Jossy. She really appreciates all that he has done to help them. She also adores Greta, and trusts her also. She also likes the new Attorney they have hired, feels she is very aggressive and wants to solve this case. Beth & Jug are going back to Aruba tomorrow (Sunday), she also said that Greta would be back down there soon, just not sure what the date would be. I had on my Hope for Natalee bracelet and she saw it and was so happy and appreciative (I have one of the 1st ones made (original) and she was very impressed with that). I signed the wall for Blogs for Natalee (picture on 2nd email).

Everyone go to the forum and give Debbie a huge thanks for taking time to do this.
