ORANJESTAD, Aruba Sep 22, 2005 — Arubans will chose their prime minister and all 21 seats in the parliament Friday in a race that has focused on immigration and frustration over stagnant salaries lagging behind inflation
Aruba, about the size of Washington D.C., also became the focus of international scrutiny this year after American teen Natalee Holloway disappeared on the final night of her high school graduation trip to the island.
Authorities detained three young men, a Dutch youth and two Surinamese brothers, who were the last people seen in public with the 18-year-old American. But all three were released for lack of evidence prompting anger at the government and calls for a tourism boycott in the United States.
