Holloway’s Mother Looks Back, Offers Advice to Class of ‘06
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Beth Twitty did her homework before sending her daughter, Natalee Holloway, off to Aruba on her senior trip: She went to planning meetings, and so did Holloway. They asked questions. They talked about underage drinking, chaperones and traveling with buddies.
But everything fell apart. Their worst nightmare became 2005’s cautionary tale for parents and the class of ‘06.
The senior trip – the epitome of carefree drinking and all-night partying – isn’t going any away. But Holloway’s mom, Beth Twitty, hopes that now teens will listen.
“I think if kids can take Natalee’s story with them and realize that you’re not always safe – you’re not always safe traveling to an exotic island with 150 friends,” said Twitty in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. “You are responsible for yourself.
