Joran: ‘I still lie’

AMSTERDAM - Joran van der Sloot, who calls himself a pathological liar, still believes in his own innocence. “The biggest mistake I have made in my life was leaving Natalee Holloway alone on the beach. She lay beside me in the sand, we touched each others bodies”.
At that moment I thought: “We are not going to have actual sex, I have trial exams tomorrow and I just want to go home. Leave her there if she wants to, is what I though. She can easily walk back to the hotel. Deal with it yourself, I did not even like her”. Joran even admits that he would have rather had had sex with Natalee’s friend Ruth….
He keeps adamantly denying that he has anything to do with the mysterious disappearance of the American student. “I am still the main suspect, lied about that night on the beach, but didn’t lay a hand on her/did not hurt her”.
The disappearance of the then 18 year old American student Natalee Holloway on Aruba, nearly two years ago, has hurt him psychologically/mentally enormously. “I hate msyelf for having lied that much. About everything. The bad thing however is that I still lie every day. It is easy for me to do. Even after all of it”.
He is very open and up front about it: “I thought he world revolved around me. That is why I kept quiet about the truth of what happened that night with Natalee. That was stupid. That evening on the beach I had sex with her and left her there alone. I did not even know her name”.
I ought to be in constant care for my lying, but I am too stubborn to be councilled. I am being compared in the US to O.J. Simpson, he boasts.
Treatment
His parents had tried to get him to see a child psychologist even before the disappearance. “I did not get along with my little brother. I had issues. But I didn’t like the go to the psychologist to get treated”.
The second year student of the Higher School of Arnhem and Nijmegen is very confident about himself. He does not want to be portrayed as a killer. He is taking a degree in International Business Management in his birthplace of Arnhem. “In due course I want to start my own business on Aruba. That is my home country”.
Today his autobiography is released about the case of the Amercan girl, but who made it to all international newsmedia. “I wrote it like a diary. Not to prove my innocence but more as a way to deal with it for myself.
Alcohol
On May 30th 2005, the blond tourist disappears without a trace after having intensely spending a part of the night with the very tall Van der Sloot having had sex with him and having consumed a good quantity of alcohol. “She wanted more, but I had not condoms on me. Then she briefly fell asleep”.
Several hours before the amorous heavy petting on the beach he is living it up with his friends, the brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe and several American college women, among them Natalee. That happens at the black jack table of the Excelsior Casino, part of the Holiday Inn Hotel. Natalee keeps insisting that she wants to go with the boys. “I had told her that I had a trial exam the next day”.
But he relents to the girls pressure. He gets picked up from his house by the “pimped up” Honda Civic of Deepak Kalpoe. “I want to see sharks” Natalee says. The duo is dropped off by Joran’s friends at the fishermans huts. He reveals all of the sexual details. That he fondled her breasts and private parts, but not even knew her name. “We were fondling each other’s bodies. In total we met for about three hours. But I would have much rather liked to have had sex with her friend Ruth. She was much prettier”.
Van der Sloot, who is arrested shortly thereafter, lies about just about everything in the days that follow. With his friends, the brothers Kalpoe the concocted a story after they found out that the blond American has gone missing without a trace. “Why we decided to lie about what happened that night? I had not other option, they had targeted me as the guilty person from the get go if I had come clean”.
The new sweetheart
The suspect in this highly covered case was barely back on dutch soil before he cheated on his then time new girlfriend. The relation was over in a couple of months. “Luckily I now have a girlfriend who believes in me completely. I will never cheat on her. She, by the way, has not read my book yet..”
He has grown sick and tired of the American media. “The daily reports about the Holloway case gave the big news networks high ratings.” Also the fact that Aruba faced a economic boycott because of the disappearance and the suggestion of a cover-up, doesn’t bother him anymore.
However, he for now doesn’t feel brave enough to set foot on US soil. “I think that Natalee’s mother cannot keep in check her feelings of hatred. The family still describes me as a criminal, a lethal and corrupt person”.
