VAN DER SLOOT STAYS HEAD SUSPECT

Rotterdam, 26th of april. Justice departments on Aruba consider Joran van der Sloot still as main suspect in the case surrounding the disappearance of the American Natalee Holloway, now that there have been found new clues about her vanishing.
Eight Dutch detectives from the KLPD have arrived by now. Reopening of the investigation makes it possible to consider Van der Sloot longer as a suspect in the case. Under Aruban law someone loses the status of suspect if the case is not brought forward to the courts within two years after th start of prosecution.
Because of the renewed investigation that term can be prolonged, the OM on Aruba confirms. Last year the case was handed over as a socalled ‘cold case’, an unsolved crime, to the Dutch KLPD. It released a report last month with conclusions and recommendations which, according to the AG ‘justify futher criminal investigation’. The OM does not comment on the contents of the conclusions.
Holloway met Van der Sloot on 29 mei 2005 in a casino on Aruba. They drove to the beach where he, according to him left her around 3AM . On the 9th of june he is arrested for suspicion of kidnapping rape and murder. Three months lather he is released due to lack of evidence. Avccording to people involved in the investigation back then mistakes have been made in the investigation, interrogations and ??? (sporenonderzoek, investigation of traces, don’t know any english word for this, it is like investigating fingerprints and blood etc.. forensics maybe?).
The vanishing attracted a lot of media attention, mainly in the US, even more when it became apparent that Van der Sloot concealed the nightly petting on the beach, right before she vanished. He admits leaving her on the beach but denies having anything to do with her vanishing.
